To celebrate I Love to Read Month in Grosse Isle, Mrs. Clemis prepared a variety of activities to get kids excited about books and reading!  A Book Tasting started the month, where students were invited into Chez Clemis to get a ‘taste’ of a variety of books before they made their selections for their small group novel study.  A Novel in Disguise, was a well used book from Mrs. Clemis’ personal library.  It was shredded and then put into a glass case for students to do their best to guess what novel was disguised!  (It was Hunger Games – it took a couple of days to guess, with the winner receiving a McNally Robinson gift card!)  Students were also given a reading challenge that was outlined in Mrs. Clemis’ Reading Workshop Corner.  The challenge was to explore and read different genres, or types of books than students might normally choose.  Throughout the whole month of February the tournament of books took place.  Everyday students were asked to vote on a pair of books.  The tournament of books started with 16 books, and only one book could be victorious!  Refugee, was the tournament champion!  We wrapped up the month with a school trip to McNally Robinson, where all students were able to choose books for our school library.  I Love to Read at Grosse Isle was an AWESOME month!
