Learning opportunities in Woodlands School are becoming more equitable because this year students are learning to have a better understanding of themselves, and see themselves reflected in the culture and community of our school. Students have been reflecting on who they are, and why they are proud of who they are. One way we are doing this is through music. The Music Specialist, Mandy Hallow, brought in a guest, Derrick McCandless, from the Eriksdale Music Shop to help the students write a school song. Students learned to compose music and how to make lyrics fit into that music. All grades contributed their ideas so that the song truly does represent the students of our school. The song is titled The Good Life because we are learning about The Good Life this year.
