A new movement room has been completed at Warren Elementary School (WES).  The movement room was featured in WES’s presentation at the ISD board meeting last week as a significant step in addressing their Accessibility goal this school year.  Their high-leverage strategy in reaching this goal was to dedicate a team to research and design specific physical features of the school.  This team included WES’s Learning Support Teacher, School Counsellor, and Administrator, in consultation with the Divisional Occupational Therapist, Julie DeGroot.

The movement room supports accessibility for all students by providing them a space in which to meet their specific regulation needs, to develop their self-regulation skills, and to be successful in returning to their classroom in a state where they are ready to learn and to be included with peers.  This room has been an incredible addition to WES’s building and the staff and students at WES are looking forward to the next steps in working towards accessibility for all!
