The WCI Global Issues class is working on their social justice projects. One project was a pancake breakfast raising funds for Winnipeg Pet Rescue.

Pink Day

On Wednesday April 11th, students and staff at École R. W. Bobby Bend School wore pink to celebrate International Day of Pink. Pink Day is a day where communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop all forms of bullying. École R.W. Bobby Bend School

Kindergarten students brought their favourite stuffy to school and enjoyed a relaxing day in their PJs. To their surprise, the stuffies went on an adventure around the school. The students followed the clues left behind by their furry pals and finally found them in the  library! It was a “beary” exciting day!

Woodlands School: Intergenerational Relationships

Throughout the school year the Woodlands Grade 7 & 8 students have been meeting with residents from Oak Park Lodge & Oak Park Estates in order to foster intergenerational relationships through a variety of activities and conversations.  The program culminated with a visit to the school for tour and a series of entertaining presentations by the students.

A Trip to Remember: Vimy Ridge & Vimy Oak

On April 12th the Grades 5 to 8 students travelled to the Manitoba Archives to view a limited showing of many documents, maps, letters, war correspondence, and read about personal stories from the Canada’s defining battle at Vimy Ridge. The Manitoba Archives welcomed us as the only class to attend this event which was for only one day. Lightly School Social Justice Project for a School in Guyana

The ladies on Lightly Colony sewed 97 pencil cases, each embroidered with a students’ initials and the Canadian flag, for the Buxton Youth Developers school in Guyana. The students then filled the bags with basic school supplies, a class photo and a personalized letter. Teacher bags were also made up for teacher bags.
