The Teulon Collegiate Helping Hands Committee collected forty-three shoe boxes from the students and staff for the Operation Christmas Child Shoe box Campaign. This is part of our Helping Hands mission to support our School, our Community and Global initiatives to help make the World a better place.
November 21 was a jam packed day for students of Warren Collegiate. After a morning in the city watching ‘Robin Hood’ linking to ELA outcomes, students achieved health outcomes by participating in a Jeopardy competition. Categories promoted Addictions Awareness, with a focus on how drug and alcohol addictions can be related to anxiety and depression. Addictions awareness week is November 26-30. November numbers is part of the divisional numeracy focus in K – 8 schools. Each day, students celebrate the number of the day. November numbers is a playful way to develop a positive disposition toward mathematics learning. Rosser School – The Grade 1’s and 2’s are so proud of their November Numbers. As soon as we say it is November Numbers all their hands shoot up to go to the board.
On November 5th, the Grade 7 & 8 students from Balmoral school attended the 8th annual No Stone Left Alone ceremony at the Transcona cemetery in Winnipeg. The students each stood at the foot of grave of Canadian veteran. The students placed a rock of remembrance on the top of the headstone, and a poppy on a Canadian flag at the foot of each grave. Balmoral grades 2 & 3 students had a week of Pumpkin Mathness where they did a variety of math related activities with pumpkins. They did estimations, measurements, and comparisons of the weight, height and circumference of the pumpkins. They counted pumpkin seeds and created arrays of 2, 5, 10, etc. with them. Warren Elementary had their first Orange Shirt Day on September 27th. The event was led by the grade 8’s and they did a great job! Students learned about residential schools and unveiled their new Circle of Courage Mural.
Christmas came a little early this year to our Stony Mountain School Grade 7 Sewing class as the newly purchased set of 16 Pfaff sewing machines arrived. The original set of machines were purchased for the sewing program in Stony Mountain 14 years ago.
On Thursday, September 6th, Brant-Argyle School celebrated their first annual ‘Rainbow Day’. A friendship bench, gifted from Danica’s Village, was presented to the school.
The school year is well underway and at Woodlands School one of our many approaches to teaching mathematics is learning through games. Grade 2 students at Woodlands School are playing games that reinforce mathematical concepts and skill development while promoting positive social skills.
